We had three tricky races on day one here at the Worlds. We put up an 8-6-15, which has us in 17th position. The offshore breeze was difficult to anticipate, and the three lap races made for plenty of changes.
The first two races ranged from 8 to 14 knots, and the third was up to 17-20. It was a bit unnerving to have thunderstorms all around us for most of the day. We sailed through driving rain at one point, and in the final race the breeze followed the storm fifty degrees to the right. All in all, we hope for a return to normal tomorrow.
We are happy with our performance today, but we also know we left some points on the board. It was a long day, and the most important thing now is for us to attend to our sore bodies. We have a long week of racing ahead! As long as we keep having good starts and solid first beats we will be consistent.
We would like to thank of our supporters and sponsors, including Sperry Top-Sider. Thanks also to the sponsors and supporters of the US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics especially our title sponsor AlphaGraphics and Gold Partners Atlantis and Rolex.
