We did it! With our backs up against the wall we sailed the way we knew we could.  Our 4-9-10 was by no means perfect, but it got the job done.  Having sailed in the morning group, we were forced to wait for the afternoon group to complete their three races for scores to come out.  We now sit in 24th with 79 points.  We are tied with the 23rd and 25th place teams and one point ahead of 26th.  It is not a euphemism when coaches and sailors say “every point counts!”

The first race was the highlight of the day, and exactly what we needed to get us going.  We passed boats from the first to fourth lap on the shifty, puffy racecourse.  The breeze was still off the land, and at about 11-17 knots.  We nearly finished 3rd after rounding the first weather mark in around 10th position.  It was a testament to how we know we can sail.  From there, our confidence was brimming.  The next two races were much the same, and we came ashore hopeful but not sure of our fate.

When the scores were finally posted, it was hard to contain our excitement.  This is a goal we have worked incredibly hard to accomplish.  From here, we are focused on continuing racing in the deep and talented gold fleet.  We want to finish top-twenty, which is well within reach.  There are three days and eight races to go.

Thanks to everyone for your support and words of encouragement!

Stay tuned!
